It is a popular Nigerian soup, known in almost all regions of the country. It is made with African mango seeds (ogbono) and either fresh or dried okro.

Ingredients For Ogbono And Okra Soup
• 300 grams beef (assorted meats)
• 1 cup ogbono seeds
• 15-20 pieces of okra
• 300 grams ugu leaves (spinach)
• 3 tablespoons ground crayfish
• 1 medium-sized smoked fish
• 2 medium-sized dried fish
• 1 tablespoon powdered pepper
• 2 tablespoons okpehe (locust beans)
• 1 medium onion bulb
• 3 stock/seasoning cubes
• Salt to taste
• 2 cooking spoons palm oil
Directions For Ogbono And Okro Soup
• Wash and slice the okras, onion and pumpkin leaves (ugu). Blend or pound the okpehe until smooth and set aside.
• Finely grind the ogbono seeds into a smooth powder and mix with the palm oil. Shred the smoked fish and remove the bones then keep aside.
• Wash the meat and place in a pot, add enough water, salt to taste, 2 stock cubes and onions then cover and leave to cook for 20 minutes or until the meats are tender.
• Now, rinse the dried fish and add to the pot. Then cook till both the meats and fish are soft. Add more water, the smoked fish, pepper, crayfish, okpehe, remaining stock cube and salt to taste.
• Stir and leave to boil for 3-5 minutes. Then gradually add the ogbono in bits, while stirring steadily until fully dissolved. Mix thoroughly and leave to simmer for 2 minutes.
• Next, add the okra, stir and mix properly then add the chopped ugu leaves. Stir and simmer for 3 minutes.
• That's it, your delicious pot of Ogbono And Okra Soup is ready.
